She smelled like rain
The ocean about to heave
Tantrum stormy skies building
Energy churning miles high
Crackling with salt
Overwhelming
The tears fell
Washed her face
Covered it up
Smeared lines into skin
Shifting her cheekbones
And highlighting eyebrows
Till the glow of her face was
Blinding with sparkles
A neon painted smile
Over a bloody tongue
And muted screams
Every day she crunches the numbers on the scale mentally
Sometimes lets the silence stay sinister
Keeps breathing evenly
She says, “I believe in me”
Till she almost believes the words she mutters to the mirror
