THE QUARANTINE MIXTAPES

In the Fall of 2020, Amanda Kelly Espiritu began to noodle on ways she could extend Creative Surrender Studios’ Namastay At Home Festival beyond 24-hour virtual global benefit festivals attendees could tune into via livestream. Amanda decided to experiment with bringing some of the NAHF Alumni together to create a collaborative mixtape of music and spoken word that would blend different languages and genres together that would live on beyond just a festival weekend.

Amanda handpicked 10 artists from the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Japan, and Australia to collaborate on a rapid fire timeline that didn’t give them time to overthink. The Quarantine Mixtape Vol I was recorded in 1.5 weeks during the winter holidays of December 2020/January 2021, then mixed and mastered by featured Artist and Producer Ricky Smith. The mixtape was released in February 2021.

To ensure there was a base fund for the artists who said yes to diving in, Amanda raised $1,500 for the featured artists via The Creative Surrender Artist Fund through Venmo @CreativeSurrender. Future proceeds from digital streaming were set up to automatically distribute to all collaborators.

We’re marinating in the melodies and diving in on lyrics backed with sick beats with some of our #NamastayAtHome Festival alumni from April & August 2020 — as well as some brilliant new folx! We’ve been having a tad bit of fun during the holiday season and jamming out 2020 as we leap into the new year for 2021. 🚀🚀🚀

During a year of artists adapting to share their craft virtually and letting go of cancelled tours and other opportunities, the #CSSTeam has been reflecting on the year we’ve gotten to share creating magic with artists, musicians, and poets around the world. This mixtape contains many things. It’s goodbyes and gratitude for what’s been possible because everything changed this year. It’s a hello to all the possibilities of a new year. It’s a celebration of kick ass artists around the world creating in flow, together. 🌎🌍🌏
