After arriving back in NYC fresh off launching The Confetti Project internationally with Jelena Aleksich in Dubai in January 2018, Amanda worked with Amy Silverman, founder of The Connection Movement in NY, to start planning for her third year of Connection Camp, a summer camp for adults, which took place in June 2018. Amanda served as Camp Co-Director and lead marketing and strategy for social media promotions, lead programming efforts for Color War Olympics and the relaxation lounge, helped with sponsorship outreach, and served as a point person for workshop leaders and volunteers attending camp. Through partnership with non-profit Stageless Arts and Materials for the Arts, Amanda led efforts to acquire donations in the form of art supplies, fabric, and other materials to make Connection Camp a cozy home away from home.
The camp focused on fostering connection in all its forms – connection with self, connection with other, connection with nature, connection through play, connection through collaboration. Through a variety of conscientiously-curated participatory workshops, playful camp activities, evening dance parties and campfire gatherings, and on-site health and wellness providers, Connection Camp offered more than a weekend getaway, a rustic retreat, or a chance to meet new people. It was a radical opportunity for participants to get curious, get playful, get real, and get plugged into a vibrant sense of community.
With an average attendance of 50-75 attendees each year, Connection Camp was proof that adults were eager to detox from technology and explore deeper connections with fellow human beings searching for something more.
