DJ Tasha Blank and The Get Down Crew have been shaking things up on the dance floor in NYC for over 6+ years. Twice a month, 300+ people gather at each party to shake off the workday, sweat their worries away, and let loose. The collective of “multi-sensory party rockers live for dance” and “combine irresistibly groovable electronic, live music, and performance to create an immersive experience that will leave you drenched in sweat and full of awe.”
Unlike most NYC nightlife, The Get Down attendees wear sneakers instead of heels and there are no drinks or phones allowed on the dance floor. People of all shapes, ages, and backgrounds dance through the space without judgement. From the pre-party 6.00pm warm-up that ranges from a meditation to a twerk class, there’s always a lot of glitter, neon face paint, and drum circles, followed by a slate of guest DJs that keep the party going until 10.00pm.
For the first few years, The Get Down was promoted almost exclusively by word of mouth. Once someone attends once, they almost always come back. After attending several events with close friends who were part of the original Get Down Crew, Amanda was tapped to be a promoter in September 2018 and often helps out with the rest of the crew to keep The Get Down running smoothly. You can find her on the dance floor, greeting attendees at the door, handing out slices of pineapple, and in the middle of the dance floor, dancing on top of the bar, or spinning across the main stage.
