The way Amanda got involved with Sofar Sounds is kind of a crazy story. Amanda’s grandparents used to live in London and family friends were always talking about Sofar Sounds, but Amanda thought it was only in London. The summer of 2016, Amanda escaped the humidity of NY and headed to Argentina for a solo backpacking trip. While adventuring around Patagonia, she ran into two chill Londoners at a hostel in Bariloche and while snowboarding and chatting music, Sofar popped back into her life and they highly recommended going to a show. Luckily there was a Sofar show scheduled towards the end of her trip before she flew out of Buenos Aires. Amanda convinced people from her hostel to go to the show. Needless to say, it was magical and Amanda was hooked. One of the first weekends she got back to NY, she went to a show in Williamsburg and asked how she could jump in and help.
Amanda loves Sofar for bringing a global community of music addicts together for intimate, secret concerts for up-and-coming artists. Amanda started off greeting guests at the door, and quickly jumped into other Ambassador roles as a Show Lead, Artist Liason, and MC. A year after joining the Sofar NYC Ambassador team, Amanda was named Ambassador of the Month for October 2017.
Beyond being a Lead Ambassador managing other ambassadors as a Show Lead and MC at intimate concerts across NYC, Amanda helped with the Sofar Sounds x Amnesty International partnership events in NYC for the “Give A Home” campaign in 2017 and “Write For Rights” campaign in 2018.
The “Give A Home” event consisted of thousands of artists performed in living rooms all over the world, in over 270 cities, to raise over $180,000 in funds and awareness for the plight of 20 million+ refugees worldwide. Artists included Ed Sheeran, Hozier, Local Natives, Alessia Cara, and many more.
The “Write For Rights” event aimed to secure justice for 11 women human rights defenders under threat and in need of urgent help as a result of speaking out and taking action against various human rights abuses. The event featured time for attendees to write letters to government officials. Afterwards, celebrated singer/songwriter and activist Lauren Jauregui performed an intimate, stripped-down set for an audience of 150+ lucky guests.
